Description
From a land of goats and olive trees, and limestone terroir, where the Rhône and Provencal influences intersect. The Rousset estate sits on higher ground and faces north, giving some protection from the fierce sun. Healthy and slow ripening of grapes helps explain the astonishing expression of Vermentino we see here. Powerfully aromatic, and bright, the palate has gorgeous depth and tropical fruit succulence, with an uplifting finish.
About the Estate
Chateau Rousett is located up in the hills of ‘Alpes de Haute Provence’ and has been run by the same family since 1825. The estate and Château have quite a history, from silkworms, to sheep farm and then in the 1950s vines were planted thank goodness! The vines have been organic for over five years now, and this, coupled with their special and unique location on the geologically significant Valensole plateau, helps them to make stunningly expressive wines. Varietals that flourish in the lower Rhône and Provence are focused on, including Viognier, Syrah and Vermentino.
