Description
A 59% Merlot, 32% Cabernet Sauvignon and 9% Cabernet Franc blend aged largely in vats. The most structured batches first go into two to three year old barrels before the final blending. The objective with Le Tertre de Caussan is to offer a fruity, smooth and elegant wine capable of eight to ten years ageing but that’s also still very drinkable when young. Intense, with aromas of ripe red fruits, blackcurrant and blackberry with a hint of spice. Fine aromatic expression on a round, soft and full palate with a structure supported by ripe, well-integrated tannins that impart great length and finesse.
About the Estate
Located in Blaignan in the heart of the Médoc appellation, Chateau Le Tertre de Caussan began in the 1930s with Oscar Long, the great-grandfather of Nicolas Caussan, the current head winemaker. At the time, three hectares of vines complemented a mixed crop and livestock farming activity. In the mid-1970s, Guy Caussan, Nicolas' father, decided to focus on vinegrowing, expanding the property to 18 hectares. Château Le Tertre de Caussan is on clay-limestone soils and made up of terroirs that leave their mark on their AOC wines. All of their vineyard plots have been certified high environmental value since 2019 and as organic since September 2021.
