Description
Crémants are becoming quite popular, and we were happy to come across this excellent rendition here from Andre Stentz. Made using the Champagne method, this is an elegant and well poised French sparkling wine that’s a joy to drink and does not cost the earth. The grapes are Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay and Auxerrois, producing a very fine mousse and a big fruit impact on the palate, broadening out with supple, crisp acidity and a long finish. Only very light (almost nothing) doses of sulphur are used (microsulphites), which is made possible by the meticulous work in both the vineyard and cellar.
About the Estate
The Stentz family have been winemakers in Wettolsheim (6 kilometres from Colmar), since 1674! With vineyards planted on the well-exposed slopes of the Vosges mountains, the vines benefit from a particularly favourable microclimate in the shadow of their peaks.
André Stentz also has prized vineyard land in the Grand Cru area of Hengst (for Pinot Noir). Organic since 1984, an early convert in this region, André is one of the cheeriest and most mild mannered winegrowers you’ll ever meet.
