Description
Pinot Noir is on the rise in Alsace, and now, since the 2022 vintage, two regions have been allowed to give ‘Grand Cru’ status to their Pinot Noir wines. We’re delighted to list this rare example from André Stentz who has land in the designated area, where the clay/limestone soils, aspect and altitude all go towards the production of the very best grapes. This Alsace Grand Cru Pinot Noir is intense, concentrated and complex with plenty of ripe plum and red berry flavours overlaid with a subtle oak influence. A special Pinot Noir of high quality, it’s also made with no addition of sulphites for the fullest fruit expression.
About the Estate
The Stentz family have been winemakers in Wettolsheim (6 kilometres from Colmar), since 1674! With vineyards planted on the well-exposed slopes of the Vosges mountains, the vines benefit from a particularly favourable microclimate in the shadow of their peaks.
André Stentz also has prized vineyard land in the Grand Cru area of Hengst (for Pinot Noir). Organic since 1984, an early convert in this region, André is one of the cheeriest and most mild mannered winegrowers you’ll ever meet.
