Description

A 50/50 blend of Garnacha (Grenache) and Syrah aged in French oak for 18 months. The thin-skinned but fruit driven Garnacha marries beautifully with the dark and spicy black fruited Syrah. Intense flavours that linger and linger on the palate. The newest addition to Alvaro’s Pura Fe range of Chilean wines.

  • 93 Points – Descorchados Chilean Wine Guide (2014 vintage)
  • 91 Points – Tom Cannavan, ‘From the Maipo Valley, a wine from organic vineyards that also follow some biodynamic principles, this is made by the highly respected Alvaro Espinoza who was winemaker at Carmen for many years and is considered one of the country’s great viticultural experts. The wine spends 18 months in French oak and opens with a beautifully deep and glossy pool of black fruits, just elegantly edged with mint and chocolate. In the mouth it is opulently rich, an almost jammy blackcurrant sweetness to the fruit, but a broad-based, creamy tannin structure, tight cherry acidity and a spiciness give it flesh, texture and length.’ Wine-Pages.com, November 2015 (2013 vintage)

About the Estate

Antiyal Alvaro Espinoza was founded in 1996 by Alvaro Espinoza and his wife Marina Ashton, although Alvaro has been tending to vineyards in Chile for over 25 years. He spent many years perfecting his craft at the internationally renowned Carmen winery before following his life-long dream to run his own estate in 1996. The duo bravely struck out on their own, purchasing just one hectare of land in the sleepy Maipo Valley town of Alta Jahuel where they planted Cabernet Sauvignon. After two years and much hard work, Alvaro knew his organic/biodynamic wines were ready to bottle and they released the first vintage of Antiyal, a Mapuche word that means “sons of the sun”, in 1998. Today their flagship wine Antiyal is arguably the benchmark for all Chilean reds and is critically acclaimed by critics and consumers alike around the world.
