Organic Merlot Wines
This dark blue grape variety is popular for both varietal wines and blending. In fact, Merlot wine is best known for being added to Cabernet Sauvignon in 'Bordeaux blends'. Thanks to its soft, fleshy texture and the fact that it ripens earlier in the year, the wine is ideal for blending with the sterner, tannic Cabernet Sauvignons, which ripen later in the year.

There are two styles of Merlots: 1. International style — Grown in warm climates to increase ripeness and produce full-bodied wines of an inky purple colour, with higher alcohol, smoother tannins, and flavours of blackberry and plum. 2. Bordeaux style — Growing Merlot in cooler climates can maintain the acidity of the wine and produce medium-bodied wines with middling alcohol levels and flavours of fresh red fruits (raspberries and strawberries)–with the potential for more vegetal and leafy notes.
Organic Merlot wine is a star performer in its own right, thanks to the hallmark soft and juicy plum flavours and smooth tannins. Very easy drinking, Merlot is a great choice when entertaining.
