Description

A fragrant and delightful Brouilly, 'A wine that is delicious and has soul...'

A fragrant and delightful Brouilly (an appellation in Beaujolais) that’s juicy and subtle. Made from 100% Gamay grapes, this delicate red is elegant with a medium-bodied palate, lively acidity and soft enjoyable tannins. Pleasure in a bottle, this silky red’s delicate aromas of black cherry, plum and spice and balanced flavours of earthy black fruits are fantastic.

  • 17.5/20, JancisRobinson.com, ‘It tastes of raspberries and blackberries, of ink and earth, of orange peel and old bricks. The tannins seem to simply graffiti the fruit with street-art panache. A wine that is delicious and has soul. What’s more, this stainless-steel fermented, 13.5% wine, aged for about nine months in old oak, is under £20. Affordable and crushable indeed.’ (written by Tamlyn Currin, 2022 vintage)
  • Recommended by Brian Elliott, MidWeek Wines: ‘Compared to more northerly parts of the Cru Beaujolais area, the diverse geology of Brouilly often produces fresher, easy drinking, Beaujolais but this example combines delicacy with complexity. Juicy with aromas of soft fruit, it provides bright and fresh complex cherry, blackcurrant and spicy flavours. These are accompanied by good orange acidity (but little tannin) together with nuanced cocoa and violet background components to round things out nicely.‘ (2022 vintage)

Awarded amongst the Top 100 Wine & Spirits Brands in the World by the Luxury Lifestyle Awards, Chateau de La Chaize has been a family-run wine-producing estate for almost 350 years/since 1676 in Beaujolais. Today they cultivate 150 hectares of organic vineyards, comprised of 23 individual plots divided among the Brouilly, Côte de Brouilly, Fleurie and Morgon appellations. For ethical and ecological reasons, Château de La Chaize made the decision to convert its entire estate to organic viticulture, and in 2022, after the three year transition period, their first certified organic vintage was produced. Apart from managing their vineyards organically, they also rely on thermal and solar powered energy, aim to use machinery, vehicles and equipment that run on electricity or hydrogen and also prioritise zero waste and carbon neutrality. In addition, they have also created small catch basins and a natural water treatment area planted with reeds. The recycled water is used to water the 7,000 trees and shrubs that have already been planted on the estate.
