Easter Starters or Brunch

boiled eggs - along with easter lunch wine ideas

Your Easter starter might be a nice warm soup or perhaps some tartines or hors-d’œuvres of sorts, or maybe even a quiche. For this, we recommend something bubbly, as sparkling wines are extremely food-friendly and tend to pair well with eggs made in so many ways, from scrambled to benedict variations too. Tartines are often made with things like smoked fish or cheeses, and again, bubbles can be a great way to go here and they are simply a nice way to get the party started.

This year we’re recommending Albet i Noya’s Efecte Brut Reserva for an Easter fizz. This top-class Penedes sparkler won Best in Class/Show at the 2024 Champagne and Sparkling Wine World Championships (2021 vintage).

A Spritz anyone?

Spritzes have certainly become popular aperitifs, even more so when the sun’s out! With Walcher’s stylish Veneziano Spritz, you can also make yourself a great tasting organic aperol spritz.

Easter Lunch Wines for Roast Lamb

There are plenty of options for red wines that pair well with roast lamb, an Easter lunch favourite. As a richer meat with a higher fat content, a richer red is your best bet. Go for any of the following reds:

As you can see, plenty of options, here are four organic reds perfect for roast lamb. With its intense aromas of ripe red and black fruits and hints of earthy spice, this Bordeaux fits the bill.

A Rioja or aged Tempranillo is another great choice for roast lamb. Aged in both American and French oak barrels for 18 months, and then a further 15 months in the bottle, Vina Ijalba’s Rioja Reserva is a great choice.

Syrah is another natural choice for lamb’s rich and gamey flavor is a natural match for Syrah, go for the Clos de Caveau Vacqueyras ‘Fruit Sauvage, a fabulously earthy Rhône red.

Some are always loyal to Pinot Noir, and this more delicate varietal can indeed go well with lamb too. This stunning biodynamic Burgundy from Michel Magnien has all the right notes to make a lamb dish sing.

Original price was: £27.00.Current price is: £24.00.

Easter Lunch Wines for Roast Chicken

For roast chicken, another popular Easter lunch main, plenty of options will do as well, and also whites and rosés as it’s a lighter meat. Try these for a delicious combination:

This lighter Italian red, Beaujolais or oaked Chardonnay are all superb matches for roast chicken, starting off with Santa Tresa’s Frappato, a stunning Sicilian red with delicious wild strawberry and cherry notes.

Original price was: £13.99.Current price is: £12.99.

With its fruity and fresh flavors, Beaujolais is another classic choice for roast chicken. Go for the gold medal-winning Le Moulin from Romany.

Original price was: £17.75.Current price is: £16.50.

For a white wine for roast chicken, go for something with buttery or oaky notes, like Domaine Bousquet’s flavourful Reserve Chardonnay.

Easter Lunch Wines for Ham

For Easter lunch wines for roast ham or gammon, lighter fruitier reds like Beaujolais or Pinot Noir work, as do some whites.

Bursting with vibrant fruit flavour, expert winemaker Jean-Claude Mas’ IGP D’Oc Mon Grenache is an excellent choice for a red to have alongside roast ham.

Original price was: £14.50.Current price is: £13.95.

Riesling (both dry and off-dry) is another great choice for roast ham, like the vibrantly flavoured Beetle Riesling Trocken.

Original price was: £16.99.Current price is: £15.99.

Rosé & Orange Wines

You don’t have to stick with whites or reds for dishes like roast ham or chicken – rosé wines can be extremely versatile food pairing wines, along with orange wines too!

Easter Lunch Fish Dishes

For fish dishes like fish pie, stick to whites, Chardonnay is a safe bet for a dish like fish pie.

What about vegetarian mains?

If you look at the BBC Good Food’s Easter vegetarian section, the first few recipes to come up are pies and galettes with ingredients like cheese, spring onions, courgette, etc. It’s hard to recommend just a few wines to go with all vegetarian mains as their flavours and ingredients can vary a lot.

However, for a pie or quiche with ingredients like leeks or spring onions, we’d recommend a crisp dry white such as a Sauvignon Blanc or even a Riesling or light Chardonnay could work well too.

What about desserts and chocolate?

a simnel cake - for easter lunch wine ideas

Simnel cake, chocolate torte, easter eggs and chocolate … there are organic dessert wines or organic liqueurs to match whatever your sweet delight is. With us since last year, Walcher’s Hazelnut Cream Liqueur would be heavenly alongside milk chocolates of all kinds, or simply drink over ice.

For something a little more unique, Guy Pinard AOC Pineau des Charentes would be a good choice for darker chocolates or richer cakes, or as an Easter aperitif too.

An Organic Amaretto

Last but not least, this organic Amaretto is made with natural bitter almond oil (rather than commercial flavourings used for most amaretto drinks), organic bourbon vanilla and organic cocoa beans for a super luxurious tipple. Pair with chocolate, from milk to white to dark, or even Easter simnel cake for a super luscious combination.

We hope you enjoyed these Easter lunch wine ideas. However you spend it, wish you a very happy and peaceful time of year🐣
