Description
Alsace is one of the great traditional wine regions of France, but has been slightly overlooked in the British market of late. It’s long overdue for a resurgence, given the quality and sheer drinkability of the wines made there, and this Pinot Blanc (70%) and Auxerrois (30%) blend is a perfect example of what makes Alsatian wines so great. This wine has brilliant flavours of summer orchard fruits, highly concentrated and easy for even novice palates to detect, and a subtle creamy texture lifted by pleasing acidity. The kind of wine that easily slips into any setting, whether it be dinner with friends, a simple roast chicken or a quiet midweek glass.
About the Estate
The Stentz family have been winemakers in Wettolsheim (6 kilometres from Colmar), since 1674! With vineyards planted on the well-exposed slopes of the Vosges mountains, the vines benefit from a particularly favourable microclimate in the shadow of their peaks.
André Stentz also has prized vineyard land in the Grand Cru area of Hengst (for Pinot Noir). Organic since 1984, an early convert in this region, André is one of the cheeriest and most mild mannered winegrowers you’ll ever meet.
